Surprise Birthday Outing

So Sunday, April 30 Irene, Arla, Janey, Sharon, & Janice took me on the long-awaited surprise (at least for me) girls' outing. I think I had an idea where we were going (since I'm the type to try to figure out things, and from little things the girls would say here and there) but I was up for anything they had planned for me - I know that I would love whatever we did.

Arlene and Sharon picked me in NoHo and i'm blind folded with an itchy scarf. I know we're heading south on the 405, but had no clue where we'd be going (I knew Native Foods was off of the 405, but I didn't think we'd be going there). I'm trying to guess where we're going, but the girls wouldn't budge at all. =) After a 30 min drive or so we finally park, they take the scarf off and I look around it looked like we were @ the beach - I wasn't surprised like "wow" just yet..hehee. We were actually in Venice and walk along the stores and stuff. Us 3 bought really nice skirts (I'll wear mine for the surprise wedding shower... heehee).

We met Reney, Jane, and Janice @ this Greek (?) restaurant I believe it was called Gaby's. We had pita bread dipped in olive oil, sesame seeds, and some other ingredient that slips my mind also this fresh eggplant dish that we ate pita. The vege falafel sandwiches were delicious with the french fries as well.

So the girls were saying that going the muscle beach to work out was my surprise, but really it was coming after we ate @ Gaby's. Of course I was blind folded once again and another 20 min or so and I was guided out of the car into a building of some sort.

They finally take off the scarf and we're at the counter of "surprise surprise" a spa!! (yay!) It was called Raya - a European spa place in La Cienega.

I was excited because I had been wanting a good massage and to sit in a sauna for a long time (it was my first visit to the spa - can you believe that? - besides all those wonderful massages in Wildwood during class of course (: So Jane, Reney, and I get the swedish massages while Arla & Sharon got the facials. We all were able to go to the sauna, steam room, aromatherapy steam room and use the hydrotherapy showers (just like an updated version of the ones' in wildwood).

The massage and spa experience was such a blessing to allow me to relax for a couple of hours after a challenging past two months. Steve of course was thinking the girls would take me to the spa... heehee. Thank you ladies for a wonderful dy!

Thank you from the Luna/Salagubang Family

Andrew and Shylene at the Nursing Senior Banquet June 2005

Andrew and Shylene as kids!!

To our dear family and friends,
We would like to express our deepest, heartfelt thanks to you as we grieved the loss of Lance Andrew Luna. From the moment we heard about Andrew you were by our side – allowing us to mourn by taking care of the funeral arrangements. Words cannot express how thankful we are for all of your unselfish acts of love – the hugs, moments of silence, the words of comfort and hope, bringing food for the viewings and services, running the many errands, keeping us company so we wouldn’t be alone, the beautiful flower arrangements, the monetary gifts, the precious moments reminiscing about our Andrew, and so much more. The Lord knows each and everyone one of you. Your prayers, thoughts, presence, and support
have not gone unnoticed.

As the days passes by, we continue to miss Andrew. Our faith and trust in God is tested in times like these, but we pray everyday for the Lord to comfort and strengthen us (and He has been so faithful in doing just that). We are so grateful though for the twenty years and six months that he was with us. The pictures, videos, and mementos that we have of him all testify of the happiness, joy, and love we shared. We have seen our family and friends (like you) be at our side showing love at this difficult time.

We continue to hold to the promises in Revelation 21:1-7. As he is now sleeping awaiting for Jesus our Savior’s sweet voice to wake Andrew (and the rest of our loved ones) up, we will live our lives for Christ that we may be reunited with our son, brother, and friend in Heaven for eternity.

We thank you again. God bless!

Sincerely,

Leo (Ven), Linda Salagubang, and Lauren-Shylene Luna

Hello! First time doing this blog thing (kind of) so hope you receive a blessing!

Two months and two weeks away from our wedding!
Oh yes, Steve and Shy
("were meant to be!...their love for each other is simply harmony")
Getting married Sunday, June 25, 2006 - 11 a.m. @ Calabasas Inn(.com).
We've been together for a very long time... (high school sweethearts).
It's amazing how much we've grown these past years - the Lord has been so good and faithful to us.
You can visit our wedding website: www.shyandsteve.com

Many things have been happening lately...

  • dealing with the loss of Andrew, my brother (Friday, March 3, 2006). It's been so hard, but I believe the Lord has kept us strong and at peace. I have this constant knot in my stomach/lump in my throat everytime I think about him. The wedding will be wonderful, but it will be hard when Andrew won't be standing there next to us. His friends have told us that he was looking forward to seeing me (Shylene, sister, Ate) walk down the aisle. He's sleeping now - and satan can't touch him - we miss him so much still.
  • wedding plans... finally our wedding invitations are out and about, flowers are mostly taken care of, the bridal party still have to get dresses altered - still need to find shoes!!, guys still need to buy their black pants (ahem!! heehee), have to do another taste testing, figuring out the final stuff for our yummy vegan cake....... have Mercy! so much to do!
  • buying the condo - moving steve in (i'm moving after we're married) - let me tell you it ain't easy to find, buy, and move into a place 2 months before the wedding - especially after how poorly we've been treated by agents, brokers, HOA people - mean it really was a challenge and a trying experience (on top of everything else that's happened)
  • working as a real nurse w/ cute icu babies - yeah i'm going to stay on noc shift a bit longer - hopefully sleep will come easier to me - kinda hard though with everything i need to take care of - i try to delegate to other people, but there's still much more i need to do. nicu's been wonderful though, everyone has been really nice & sympathetic since taking some time off for andrew's services.
  • mip minisitry & fontana stuff - let's see mission trip to the PI this summer, scholarship funds, p4E - Lessons from the Master. the prayer meetings have helped so much to bring mip together to focus on the Lord's will for the PI... it's cutting it very close though for the Lord to provide the rest of the means to fund this misison trip. the Lord I know will show us He's in control and the appointed time - i know my faith is tried that I may trust the Lord (i do have the tendency to try to rely on my own means and accomplish things myself, but it really does not work that way because the easier thing to do is to allow Jesus to do all the work in us to do amazing things).

Well, we'll update you all more in the "life of misters!!"

God bless and Maranatha!!
